Privacy Policy

Eighty Six (“we”, “us”) makes bartender tools for cocktail specs, batching, menus, and costing. This policy covers the Eighty Six iPhone app and, in a separate section, the free browser calculator at 86calc.com. They are related products with different accounts and storage.

iPhone app - what we collect and process

• Recipe and menu data you enter. Specs, menus, restock lists, prep recipes, and ingredients are stored on your device.
• Optional private iCloud sync (Eighty Six Pro). When you turn Pro sync on, your personal library (specs, prep recipes, menus, restock, and ingredients) can mirror to your private iCloud on devices signed into the same Apple ID. Sync is off until you enable it. Turning sync on or off requires quitting and reopening the app. We do not host that library on our servers - Apple iCloud does, under your Apple ID.
• Subscriptions. Eighty Six Pro is an auto-renewable subscription through Apple StoreKit. We only receive entitlement status (Pro active or not) so gated features work. We do not receive your full payment card details. Cancel anytime in your Apple ID subscriptions.
• Camera and photo library. Used only when you choose quick import from a photograph or an existing photo. We do not access the camera or library otherwise.
• Quick import parsing. When you import a recipe, the extracted or pasted recipe text is sent to https://thebartending.app/api/parse-spec so we can parse a spec. If you import from a photo, OCR runs on-device first - the photo itself is not what we POST; the recognised or pasted text is.
• Product analytics and crash reporting. We use PostHog (EU host) to understand feature use and reliability - not for ads. This is anonymous / device analytics, not an advertising profile. We do not use it to sell personal information.
• Support email. If you write to us, we keep the message and your address long enough to reply.

iPhone app - what we don’t do

• This iPhone version has no Sign in with Apple and no app account of ours.
• We do not sell your personal information.
• We do not use your recipe library for advertising targeting.

Website calculator

The free browser calculator at www.86calc.com is a separate product. On that site:

• Recipes can be saved in your browser’s local storage on that device without an account.
• If you create an optional website account, we store the email and authentication details needed to sign you in, plus any library data you choose to sync to that account. Those website accounts are not the same as the iPhone app, which has no app account on this version.
• The website may use hosting and analytics providers (for example Vercel and PostHog) to run pages and understand usage.

Third parties

Depending on which product you use, processing may involve Apple (App Store / StoreKit / iCloud), the parse-spec API on thebartending.app, PostHog (EU), hosting providers such as Vercel, authentication or database providers used only by the website calculator, and email delivery for support replies. Each provider processes data under their own terms for the purpose of running Eighty Six.

Retention

Device-local data stays until you delete it or clear the app / browser storage. Optional iCloud copies follow Apple’s iCloud retention for your account. Website account data stays until you delete your account or ask us to remove it. Support emails are kept only as long as needed to help you.

Your choices

• Delete recipes and menus in the app or browser at any time.
• Turn iCloud sync off in the iPhone app (requires quit and reopen).
• Clear website local data by clearing site data for that domain in your browser.
• Contact us to request deletion of website account or support records: support@thebartending.app.

Children

Eighty Six is aimed at working bartenders and bar operators. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.

Terms of Use (iPhone app)

The iPhone app uses Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement: Apple Standard EULA.

Changes

We may update this policy as the product grows. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
